Week 5 Journal [three parts to go]

A: “Hey why weren’t you at work today!!?”

B: “I am so sorry Steven, I’m just going through some personal shit right now.”

A: “I don’t care anymore Philip.”

A: “You can’t keep doing this to me, I had to bust my ass off and open with two people today.”

B: “I know I know, I am truly sorry Steven those weren’t my intentions. I had to take care of my baby.”

A: “You have one more chance, if you call off on me one more time within the next three months then you are fired!! Do you understand me?”

B: “I just don’t get it man. You’re being so cold right now, my wife just had a baby and they’re my priority right now.”

A: “You told me you needed one week off and I gave that to you. If you needed more days off you should have told me in advance not the night before. And most definitely just not show up, that is unacceptable.”

B: “Whatever bro.”

B: “By the way I showed my therapist our conversations and he is on my side, you need to chill out.”

A: “OH REALLY?! Have you told your therapist I’ve had to work 70 god damn hours a week because you haven’t finished your god damn serve safe yet!? Huh did you tell him that?!!.”

B: “Like I said bro I am sorry I haven’t finished that yet. I’ve been going through a lot bro I just haven’t had the time.”

A: “YOU HAVEN'T HAD THE TIME?!!! IT HAS BEEN THREE MONTHS!!! Stop making excuses for yourself Philip you’re digging yourself a deeper hole.”

B: “Well why haven’t you been nagging any of the other managers in training to get there serve safe don’t so that they can help you run shifts?”

A: “Because of you Phil!! You’re in the class, we’re waiting on you to finish so that they can start their classes as well. I’m done with you, if you don’t have your serve safe done by next week, YOU'RE FIREDDD!!!”

B: “Heard, I will have it done. But just so you know I bet Tyler and Justin would be on my side. Your being so inconsiderate. I am a father now, and you’re threatening my job.”

A: “You’re being a child Philip I’ve tried to work with you, I even gave you manager pay already and you haven’t even been promoted yet. If you end up getting fired just know that it was your fault and your decision.”

A: “Oh and by the way, Tyler and Justin are not on your side... in fact they want you to hurry up so they can begin their serve safe.

The two are having their conversation over text. Steven is texting Philip during his shift so he is at an In N Out in Los Angeles, which is one of the most busiest stores in America. It is across from the beach. There is an amazing sunny glare that comes through the side windows, you can also see a view of pigeons and birds near the pier. Steven is sitting in the office of the restaurant, across from his office is the dish pit with nasty oily dishes. The whole back office reeks of French fries and burgers. He has over 30+ papers on his desk as well as many clipboards. Under his desk is a giant 24by52 inch safe. Just from looking at his desk you already feel overwhelmed. Philip on the other hand is laying down in his apartment on a four person couch with his feet propped up and his baby on his chest. There are also many dishes piled up in the sink as well as In N Out cups and wrappers everywhere.

1) Steven is about 5ft 9in. He is relatively over weight but in a healthy way. He has a lot of loose skin because he went from 400lbs down to 208lbs. He is mixed. Half white and half black but he looks more white. He has curly brown hair and pierced ears.

2) Steven is a very caring GM but he is very serious about his job. He has many friends that he hired at In N Out but he is not afraid to fire them if they take advantage of anything or are bad workers. He loves and holds his family close to him. He holds his queen Riley on a pedestal because she loved him back when he was obese and no one else would.

3) Steven is the General manager of an In N Out in Los Angeles, because of how busy the store is he gets paid a good annual salary of $97,000 as well as bonuses. He is also the mascot of the Los Angeles Lakers. He is forced to be working almost every hour of his life to ensure the success and safety of his store as well as practicing and performing as the Los Angeles Lakers mascot.

4) My character is most afraid of one of his loved ones dying. As I said earlier he is very close with his family and loves his wife Riley very much. He is always trying to take care of them all and helps out financially when he can.

5) Steven is not completely sure what he wants in life, to be completely honest he just wants to be happy and he believes money is the way to do it. He believes he wants the American Dream to make him and his family happy.
